On November 9-11, 2023, an international ecumenical academic conference “Healing of Wounded Memories” was held in Vienna, Austria. The main organizer of the conference was the Austrian Foundation “Pro Oriente”.
The conference brought together theologians and other experts from a number of countries in Europe and the Middle East. In addition to general thematic round tables and working groups, the conference hosted panels on the situation in specific regions – Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Balkans.
In addition to Sergii Bortnyk, Ukraine was represented at the conference by archpriest Andriy Dudchenko, deacon Roman Zaviyskyy and Pavlo Smytsnyuk. As part of the conference, an open lecture was held at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna on the topic “Conflicts, memories and the reinvention of hatred”, which was delivered by the President of Saint George University of Beirut, Dr. Tarek Mitri.
