Sergii Bortnyk

1993-1998 – he studied at the Institute of international relations of the Kyiv national university after Taras Shevchenko and has degree “Master of international information, translator from English”.

1996-2003 – he studied orthodox theology at the seminars of Kyiv, Saint Petersburg and Odessa. Diploma – equivalent of Master in orthodox theology.

1999-2004 – he taught in the city of Sumy – at the theological college, as well as at two gymnasiums and at the Institute for advanced pedagogical education. 2002-2004 additionally he worked in positions of press-secretary of the Sumy eparchy and of representative of the Sumy eparchy in the contacts to the state educational institutions.

2007-2014 – he studied at the theological faculty of Heidelberg university, Germany. Here he gained diploma of “Master of Arts in theological research” (2010) and diploma of “Doctor of theology” (with the grade “magna cum laude”). The title of his doctoral thesis was “Person and communion. Theology of John Zizioulas in systematic consideration”.

Since January 2014 he is teaching at the Kyiv theological academy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Since October 2014 he is Prof. Ass., since October 2017 – Professor of the Academy. The titles of his courses are “Modern orthodox theological thought”, “Catholic theology”, “Dogmatic teaching of protestant confessions” (Master level); “Interconfessional relationships in Ukraine”, “Theology of Metropolitan John Zizioulas” (doctoral level).

Since July 2016 he is the Head of the Charitable foundation “Academic initiative”.
