On August 19.-20. 2022 the “Oslo Coalition on Freedom of Religion and Belief” organized an international seminar “Orthodoxy and Democracy”. It was supported by the University of Oslo and Norwegian Centre for Human Rights. On the invitation of the organizers Sergii Bortnyk took part at the seminar and had a paper “Orthodoxy and democracy: some remarks on the situation in Ukraine”. Because of mobility restrictions in Ukraine his presentation was provided through ZOOM.
Ukraine and Egypt were two specific themes of the seminar. Besides, the participants discussed the situation with democratic principles in the Orthodox Churches in a wide context. Among the prominent participants of the seminar there were Pantelis Kalaitzidis, Paul Ladouceur, Alexander Agadjanian, Fr. Cyril Hovorun and some other.
