On June 30, 2022, the Assembly of the Conference of European Churches took place, this time online. At the invitation of the organizers, Sergii Bortnyk took part in the event as a representative of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He spoke at the second session of the assembly, specially dedicated to Ukraine. Other speakers of the session were Archbishop Yevstratiy Zoria, representative of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and Christine Schliesser, director of the Center for Faith and Society at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.
In his speech, Sergii Bortnyk focused on the models of relations between the Church and the state that manifested themselves in the war situation. He also drew a parallel in the attitude to the current war between the papal throne and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. An important part of the presentation was analysis of the official position of the UOC regarding the war and of the decisions of the Council of the UOC on May 27. of this year, which became a significant event in the life of this Church.
